Before the arrival of each of our children, my husband and I thought through everything needed to give our son or daughter the greatest start in life. We collected many items to help our child have and be the best. When God thought of having His children, He thought through everything they could possibly need and made all the preparations. In this Grace Administration, His gift of holy spirit is what we needed and what we received when we got born again. Within that gift is the power and the right to manifest both spiritual and physical wholeness. Our spiritual wholeness is very great, but let’s delve into the greatness of the physical wholeness that is ours to claim. God wants His children well, enjoying a lifetime of good health.
God wants us well because of His love, and He tells us plainly, “…I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health…” (III John 2). None of us likes for those we love to endure sickness and pain. Neither does our Father God, so He provided a number of ways out of sickness and pain.
God is just as passionate about bringing us physical wholeness as spiritual wholeness. Even at this very moment, God is willing and able to heal and strengthen our physical bodies in spite of what our senses may tell us. God supplied the means for us to live free from the bondage and burden of sickness and pain. He wants us to have the joy of “seeing” our healing and the freedom to live long, fruitful lives in sweet fellowship with Him as we serve.
In our lifetime, we all have opportunities to overcome injuries or physical sickness. God knew we would experience this, but He intended for us to believe His Word and be victorious. God “pre-thought” every eventuality that could keep us from seeing His healing in our lives. Our Father lovingly had Jesus Christ take everything against us—transgressions, sins, bondage, sickness, and pain—out of the way. He removed them completely, so that we can claim our wholeness by believing.
Let’s explore three of the avenues God gave for our healing: (1) the spoken Word of God, (2) holy communion, and (3) ministering to one another. We want to build God’s Word regarding healing in the depths of our heart so that physical wholeness is manifested in our lives and in the lives of others too.
First, let’s consider the spoken Word of God, the greatest healing reality there is. It is the basic way people receive their healing. Someone proclaims the good news of God’s will and power to heal; the one in need latches onto the truth spoken and makes up his mind to believe it. Believing energizes the power of God, and he gets delivered! The spoken Word is the power of God unto salvation, or wholeness, to everyone that believes.
One great reason God gave us His Word is for our healing: “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions” (Psalms 107:20). God’s very nature is to heal, and His revealed Word is the basis for healing—it energizes the believing in our soul to bring healing to our body. We are healed by the spoken Word when the truth of God’s healing becomes so much a part of our thinking that there is no room for the negatives, leaving room for only the reality of our physical wholeness.
Let’s look at a record of a man believing the Word that Jesus Christ spoke and the healing that followed.
Matthew 8:5-9:
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
The centurion logically concluded that if his own word spoken in his realm of authority got things done, then Jesus, who had obvious power over sickness, could just speak the Word and heal his servant.
Matthew 8:10 and 13:
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith [believing], no, not in Israel.
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Jesus always spoke for God. The Word he spoke to the centurion offered God’s delivering power, which is the same yesterday, today, and forever….
